Kira is a Senior Research Facilitator at UC San Diego who channeled her background as a language major into a unique passion for technical translation - bridging the gap between researchers and the advanced technology they need to drive scientific breakthroughs. Before transitioning to higher education in 2018, she spent several years honing her technical expertise in corporate environments. Throughout her career, she has held diverse roles, including technical writer, project manager, and security and risk analyst. Today, she finds immense fulfillment in supporting UC San Diego’s world-class research ecosystem, ensuring faculty and students have seamless access to high-performance computing, secure data enclaves, and specialized cyberinfrastructure.
A dedicated advocate for accessible education, Kira administers the institution’s Software Carpentries training program, empowering researchers with foundational coding and data skills. She has also authored custom security training modules and contributed voiceover work for educational media.
When she isn’t helping researchers, Kira can be found enjoying quality time with her husband and grandchildren, hitting the trails for a run or hike, planning her chicken coops, or enjoying a fresh cup of coffee.
